This work is a finished study for the offical portrait commissioned by the Woman's Journal to mark the magazine's silver jubilee in 1952 and based on actual sittings. The finished portrait was subsequently presented to Queen Elizabeth College in 1955 and now hangs in the Senior Common Room of King's College in the Strand. The finished portrait was illustrated on the cover of the 25th birthday number of the Woman's Journal, November 1952, which included an article on the artist and a separate colour print of the painting
