Description

MAURICE MOLARSKY (RUSSIAN-AMERICAN 1885-1950), "Nu couché ," 1926, oil on canvas, 137.8 x 165.1 cm (54 1/4 x 65 in.), signed and dated upper right 'M. Molarsky 1926'. Maurice Molarsky was born to Jewish parents in Kiev in 1885 and emigrated to America as a child. Growing up in Philadelphia, Maurice studied art at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, where he was a star student of one of the most famous American artists of then and today, William Merritt Chase. Molarsky's talents were so well regarded by the Academy, that they gave him as a prize a grant to continue his studies in Paris.
