Maxwell (James Scott, 1845-1922). An album of watercolours 1892 - 93, thirty-eight pen watercolour and bodycolour paintings of merchant ships and warships of the British, French, Dutch, German and Danish navies, all signed with initials and dated, bright and clean throughout, each 180 x 255mm, artistÍs ownership signature and dates to front pastedown, original cloth bound boards with manuscript number 8 and the dates on upper board, oblong 8vo. MaxwellÍs maritime paintings appear only occasionally at auction and his bright colours and naive style have engendered an enthusiastic following. An unusual complete sketch book in fine condition.
