McKendree Robbins Long (NC, 1888-1976), Mildred
oil on canvas, colorful rendering of a young woman in a boat, the bank crowded with flowering shrubs and trees, retaining an old paper label with the painting's title and the artist's information on the verso, presented in the original gilt composition foliate frame.
SS 39.5 x 59.5; DOA 49 x 69 in.


Long's paintings have enjoyed a resurgence in the past fifteen years. He is now held in esteem as a folk and outsider artist alongside Minnie Evans and Howard Finster, among others. Long's paintings were included in a 2002 retrospective exhibition mounted by David Steel and Brad Thomas for the NC Museum of Art in conjunction with the Van Every/Smith Galleries at Davidson College.
