NOTE:
The family of Mi Wanzhong originated from Shaanxi and moved to Beijing, He passed the 1595 imperial examinations and served as an officer in Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Shandong. He was the descendant of Mi Fu, the renowned calligrapher of the Northern Song Dynasty, whose running and cursive script writing style Mi Wanzhong was inspired by. Together with Xing Tong, Dong Qichang and Zhang Ruitu, Mi is known as one of the Four Calligraphy Master of Late Ming. He was particularly fond of strange rocks and ink stones, having travelled widely in search of rare rocks for his collection.
