Item Overview

Description

Michel Pellus (Canadian bn.1945) Self Portrait, painting a block of flats, from the beach signed, oil on canvas, 100cm x 149cm Michel Pellus was born in Montreal in 1945. He came from an artistic family, his French born grandfather Guillaume Pellus was an artist and restorer of stained glass, continuing to work in this medium after moving the family to Montreal in the aftermath of World War One. His son, Michel's father Raymond continued the family tradition with a lengthy career as an artist and professor, while his mother Tina Roy is an artist based in Miami, Florida. With this background, it is little surprise that Michel turned to art as a professional career at the age of 27. Described as 'a phenomenal talent bled white by existence' by Pierre Savignac in L'Art Pellus, his work has attracted the attention of a number of prominent and famous figures, with the popular music artist Madonna being a notable collector of his work.
