Notes

A group of Ship Portraits formerly in the Collection of the Harrison Line of Liverpool

The 110-ton brig Mariote was built at Workington in 1822, measured 67 feet in length with a 19 foot beam and is the central vessel depicted in profile in this work. Ahead of her and heading towards the shore is another brig, the Margaret, built at Quebec in 1818 and identified by the Liverpool Code flags at her main masthead. Both brigs were owned by earlier associates of Thomas and James Harrison, the subsequent founders of the Harrison Line. Also present in this charming work is the Liverpool pilot cutter number 4, the Happy Return, built in 1822, and the virtually completed Perch Rock lighthouse begun in 1827 and commissioned early in 1830.

No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium, which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.
