MILLIE SKEEN NAMPITJIN BORN CIRCA 1932 LIRWADDI 1992 100 by 76 cm Synthetic polymer paint on canvas Bears artist's name, size and Warlayirti Artists catalogue number 532/92 on the reverse Provenance: Painted in 1991 at Wirrimanu (Balgo Hills), for Warlayirti Artists Coo-ee Gallery, Sydney The Sam Barry Collection Exhibited: Coo-ee Gallery, Sydney, 1992 This painting is sold with an accompanying certificate from Warlayirti Artists, Balgo Hills that reads in part: 'This is Millie's father's country and when she was a young girl he told her many of the secrets and law for the area. This area has special significance as the quartz used to make ceremonial cutting knives comes from here. The knives are used during secret rites to cut tribal markings on the chest, arms and back. These knives are called tjimarri.
