Description

dress with white lace collar, tied yellow scarf about her shoulders and matching bandeau in her upswept curled hair gold frame, the reverse with memorial miniature depicting a Lady seated beside a tomb dated 1793, an open book at her feet, being comforted by a female spirit (hairline cracks), set within a gold mounted plaited hair border oval, 78mm. (3 1/8in.) and 55mm. (2 3/16in.) high respectively (2) Provenance: The late P. C. Paton; Bonhams; 21st March, 1995, lot 145 (as by Andrew Plimer) Frances (née Latham) married firstly John Gamble (d.1811) Chaplain General to the forces and Rector at Bradwell on Sea. He was also an expert of telegraphy and invented the Gamble Radiated Telegraph that was used in the Peninsular War, 1811. She married secondly in 1813, Nelson Blood. Her daughter Frederica from her first marriage hung herself from a bedpost at Waterford in 1838.
