Miyamoto captures the essence of destruction in this gripping photograph from his seminal series After the Earthquake. In the aftermath of the great earthquake that struck Kobe in the early morning of 17 January 1995, Miyamoto turned to his camera to document the physical ruin and devastation found in the disaster-stricken areas. The following year, these photographs were exhibited inside the Japanese Pavilion at Venice Biennale's International Architecture Exhibition and caused a sensation; the Golden Lion Award was given to the Japanese Pavilion. Miyamoto is the 1989 recipient of Japan's prestigious Kimura Ihee Award and his works are held in various collections, including Centre Pompidou, Paris, The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the UBS Art Collection.

Number 7 from the sold-out edition of 15.
