Item Overview

Description

Artist: JAN PREISLER (1872-1918) Size: 28 1/2 x 43 in./72.3 x 109.2 cm Unie, Prague Founded in Prague in 1887, the Manes Association of Fine Arts hosted many significant international art exhibitions both before and after World War I, most of them focusing on a blend of avant-garde and native Czech styles. In 1902, this blockbuster show was hosted by Manes, featuring sculpture displayed indoors amidst gravel and decorative plants. It was a wild and unprecedented concept, one which made Manes the most foward-thinking artistic group in Bohemia. This is the Czech-langauge version of the design. This Lot also includes the 1950 monograph of Jan Preisler by Antonín Matéjcek, in which this poster appears on page 101. (secession, czech)
