Cette sculpture en bronze représente Moïse, debout, vêtu d'un long
manteau retombant sur sa main droite, rythmé par de nombreux
plis souples et saillants. Il tient fermement appuyé contre sa hanche
les Tables de la Loi tandis que son autre bras recourbé sur sa poitrine
semble désigner les Commandements Divins. Son visage est balayé
par un grand souffle comme le montrent sa barbe virevoltant sur la
droite, ses yeux plissés et ses sourcils froncés comme s'il souhaitait
se protéger.
Moïse, à la stature digne et humble, semble parfaitement conscient
de la mission divine dont il est investi lorsqu'il reçoit les Tables de
la Loi. Le prophète est ici animé par le souffle de Dieu, protégé par
son long vêtement qui dissimule la torsion de son corps. Les traits
et l'expressivité du visage de notre personnage sont à rapprocher
de l'OEuvre d'Alessandro Vittoria, qui fut l'un des bronziers les
plus actifs à Venise au cours du XVIe siècle. Formé dans l'atelier
de Jacopo Sansovino dont on reconnait les influences, Vittoria
développa un style bien particulier notamment dans cette utilisation
très fréquente du vent animant ses personnages. Ainsi, on peut
comparer notre oeuvre à celle conservée au Kunsthistorisches Museum représentant une Allégorie de l'Hiver ou Philosophe .
Moïse, emmitouflé dans un manteau aux drapés similaires, voit son visage battu par des bourrasques, lui faisant plisser les yeux et envoler sa longue barbe.
Il existe d'autres exemples conservés dans plusieurs collections
publiques qui attestent de l'intérêt de Vittoria pour dynamiser ses figures, non pas de façon tangible avec des gestes par exemple, mais grâce à des éléments extérieurs et immatériels qui confèrent à l'aeuvre toute son originalité.

Purchasers pay in addition to the hammer price, a buyer's premium from 0 to e 500 000:
25,20% (21 % + VAT).
For amounts superior to e 500 000: 19% (15,83% + VAT).
Lots from outside the EEC: (indentified by an*). In addition to the commissions and taxes indicated above, an additional import VAT will be charged (7% of the hammer price, 20% for jewelry).
For any member of the EEC, non assembled stones are liable to VAT 20%.
The auctioneer is bound by the indications in the catalogue, modified only by eventual announcements made at the time of the sale noted into the legal records thereof. Prospective bidders should inspect the property before bidding to determine its condition, size, and wether or not it has been repaired, restored or repainted. Exhibitions prior to the sale at Marc-Arthur Kohn or on the sale point permits buyers to establish the condition of the works offered for sale, and therefore no claims will be accepted after the fall of the hammer. BIDS
Biddings will be in accordance with the lot numbers listed in the catalogue or as announced by the auctioneer, and will be in increments determined by the auctioneer. The highest and last bidder will be the purchaser. Should the auctioneer recognize two simultaneous bids on
an object, the lot will be put up for sale again and all those present in the sale room may participate in this second opportunity to bid.
