Item Overview

Description

1527. GEORGE MONTGOMERY (1904-1981) American actor and director. A.L.S. "George", 4pp. 4to., Alaska, n.d., but ca. 1940s], during his stint in the military during World War II to J. Watson Webb, a noted Hollywood editor. In small part: "... We just got back from the glacier and I was, happily, surprised to find two swell letter from the man of the northland... It would sure be nice to get back for Xmas & I'm sure I will...I can well imagine how Bob & Ann [Sothern] feel. It's very nice to hear that Fred [MacMurray] is well...Our trip was really quite eventful, a shipwreck, snowing for several days, hunting and working...We went bear hunting several times but no luck. The guns we had were about like a 30-06 and that is none too much for the Brownies in this neck of the woods. There were four killed here in a month or so...We rescued a fellow who was picked up by the leg and shook like a dog does a rabbit, when the bear let loose of him the bear got a whack by the man, over the nose, and at that walked off leaving the poor man...Of course he got from one misfortune to another, the boat wreck. We had to tip him upside down to get him out of that & then rowed an hour before they got to the rescue ship..." Folds, otherwise very good. $100-150
