MOORE-JONES, HORACE. SKETCHES MADE AT ANZAC... DURING THE HISTORIC OCCUPATION OF THAT PORTION OF THE GALLIPOLI PENINSULA BY THE IMPERIAL FORCES. LONDON : HUGH REES, LTD., 1916 Tall oblong folio (portfolio 345 x 805mm.), 10 coloured panoramic views, each mounted on thick grey paper, loose as issued, with descriptive text (bound in original printed wrappers, 213 x 280mm.), together housed in the original cloth portfolio with gilt lettering, lacking ties

Notes

The panoramic views are of varying sizes, the tallest being 235mm., the longest 725mm., and are taken from different viewpoints. Moore-Jones, an artist, though an Englishman by birth, was resident in New Zealand and Australia, and enlisted in the New Zealand Engineers. According to the text he made many of the sketches whilst under fire. Although described as "First Series" on the cover no more were produced and he was invalided out of service. The work is rare: only one copy is recorded on COPAC.
