Whatman-1867", 15.6 x 14.4 cm (motif), 30.6 x 19.1 cm (cardboard), slightly stained, 2. Personification of well-fortified Austria, pen, Indian and grey ink, over a preliminary drawing in black chalk, on artists' cardboard with blindstamp: "Turnball's Superfine London Board", 15.4 x 14.4 cm (motif), 30.6 x 19.2 cm (cardboard), slightly stained, unmounted, unframed, (Sch) Compare these drawings with five spandrel designs for the loggia of the Vienna State Opera, illustrated in: Moritz von Schwind - Meister der Spätromantik, published by Siegmar Holsten, Karlsruhe 1996, p. 230, Cat. No. 411, and. p. 231, Cat. No. 413. These preliminary drawings of identical format date from c. 1865; they are executed in the same technique and are not inscribed as well.
