6 volumes, 8° (250 x 150mm). 358 hand-coloured wood-engraved plates by Fawcett. (Very light occasional browning.) Contemporary green half morocco, spine with gilt birds in compartments, top edge gilt (spines and lower edges lightly rubbed). Provenance: Egerton Winder Ruck (armorial bookplate).

FINELY-BOUND COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION of this highly popular work. The colouring of the plates was carried out under Fawcett and Morris's personal supervision. Nissen IVB 645; Fine Bird Books p. 95; Zimmer p. 443. (6)
