A wooded landscape with nymphs bathing signed with initials and dated 'M.v.W./1644' (lower left) oil on panel 39.9 x 50.1 cm. PROVENANCE with Galerie Bammann, Dsseldorf, 1938. Anon. Sale, Sotheby's, London, 5 July 1995, lot 159. LITERATURE U. Weisner, "Die Gem„lde des Moses van Uyttenbroeck", Oud Holland, LXXIX, 1964, p. 221, no. 22, fig. 32. NOTES The present lot is a characteristic late work by the artist, with its finely depicted foliage, the palette is consisting of pale green tones in many different shades and the generally delicate brushwork. In his late oeuvre, the staffage generally consists of relatively small figures, slightly more elegant and elongated than in his early works.
