Notes

Painted in 2004.
This work is from Kashi's Bois series. A graduate of the Art Teachers Training College in Ramat HaSharon, Cité des Arts, Paris and Breton Hall in Leeds, Kashi has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Israel and held six solo exhibitions from 1996 onwards. In her preface to his solo exhibition at the Noga Gallery in 2006 Tali Tamir describes his unique style and position in Israeli Contemporary Art ' A stranger far removed from the lightness of the Israeli lyrical abstract, drawn to the pith of nature and open space, Kashi dares to bypass irony, to ward off the option of emotional disemboweling and goes to the very heart of the poetic experience. From here he works with utter delicacy, gradually dimming the lighting, abstracting the green foliage, and tuning himself to the elusive moment when the beginning point vanishes, the far end dissolves, and growth turns around: is this birth or death, dawn or dusk?' (Tali Tamir, 'A Captive Darkness; on the work of Mosh Kashi' in Mosh Kashi, Tel Aviv, 2006, n.p. [exhibition catalogue])
