Mrs W. Honnywell Hall was a flower and landscape painter from Birmingham and wife of the painter W. Honnywell Hall. This is her only known figurative painting and may be a self-portrait. The peacock-feather fan and yellow dress are typical of the fashion of the Aesthetic Movement, one of the leaders of which was Edward Burne-Jones who was also born in Birmingham.
