Reinagle, a marine painter who exhibited at the Royal Academy, accompanied Codrington's squadron through the Mediterranean and was an eye-witness at the Battle of Navarino on board H.M.S. Mosquito. The resulting paintings of the Turkish campaign were the subject of exhibitions at the Royal Academy for the next three years. The subscribers to the second work include members of the British and Russian fleets present at the action.
