* Nesbitt (Frances E., 1864-1934). A set of twelve hand-painted china plates and four cake stands, together twelve white lattice-edged plates, each delicately hand-painted with flowers: snowdrops, forget-me-nots, daffodils, wallflowers, japonica, chrysanthamums, cornflowers (lattice border sl. discoloured), crocosmia, shasta daisies, dog roses, ivy, and periwinkle, plus four cake stands matching, hand-painted with white japanese anenome, virginia creeper, blackberries and dragonfly, apple blossom and butterfly (last two each have small chip at edge), each 203 mm (9 ins) diameter, cake stands 55 mm (2.25 ins) high. Frances Nesbitt was a prolific painter, mainly of landscapes and genre. She was the daughter of an eminent surgeon, Francis Albert, and she trained at the Slade School of Art. She exhibited regularly at the leading London galleries from 1888, chiefly at the Royal Society of British Artists and the Royal Institute of Painters in Water-colours. (16)
