Newili Circa 1910-1993 Native Dance c.1965 Natural earth pigments on eucalyptus bark 29 by 62cm Provenance Private collection, New York Private collection, Melbourne The artist is of the Murrinh-Thebin language group of Wadeye Port Keats. There is a Catholic Mission label on the reverse which bears the artist's name Charlie Sylvester Barbi, language group - Murindain sic and skin group - Girig meaning Goose and title and an inscription on the reverse reading: 'Charlie is a realistic painter of great talent - a convert from cannibalism'. Newill is also known by the names Charlie Brinkin and Charlie Sylvester Barbi.
