Description

Collection of French autographs: Adolphe Desbarrolles (1801-1886) French artist. He is considered the father of modern chiromancy, aka palmistry or palm reading. He was a friend of Alex. Dumas; accompanied Dumas on many of his trips abroad. ALS, 1861, 1page. Henry Houssaye (1848-1911) writer. A handwritten bio. sheet plus typed sheet with his handwriting on it. Jules-Louis Breton (1872-1940) was a chemist-inventor and a French politician. He was a representative of the French Assembly, and the proponent of the Breton-Pr_tot machine, a device developed in France from November 1914, intended to cut a way through barbed wire on the battlefield. It was developed with an engineer named Pr_tot, but did not progress beyond the experimental stage. TLS, 1928, 1p. Jean-Barthelemy Haur_au (1812-1896) French historian and writer. ALS, 1878, 2pp. James Darmesteter (1849-1894) French author, orientalist, and antiquarian. ALS. Not identified 1881 letter by a French painter addressed to Bernheim, the art collector. A. Stephan - French painter. ALS, 1911, 2pp. MARS [Maurice Bonvoisin] (1849-1912). French illustrator. ALS, 3pp. Ren_ Huyghe (1906-1997) French writer on the history, psychology and philosophy of art. He was also a curator at the Louvre's department of paintings (from 1930). ANS on his personal card. Auguste Dorchain (1857-1930) French writer and a poet. ALS, 1911, 3pp. Emile Keller (1828-1909) French writer and politician. ALS, 1872. Pol Quentin (1916-2011) author, translator and theater adapter. TLS, 1961. Charles Forbes Ren_ de Montalembert (1810-1870) French publicist, historian and Count of Montalembert, Deux-Sevres. ALS, 1862. Jean Finot (1858-1922) journalist, sociologist and author. He is known for his opposition to the theories racist (or racialist ), including his book The Bias of races, published in 1905. ANS written on a postcard photo of him. Paul Mahalin (1838-1899) writer of popular fiction. ALS, 1888.

Although we are careful in our descriptions, if you have any concerns about a particular item please DO NOT bid. There are NO returns for personal preference. However, we do guarantee the AUTHENTICITY of our items & will refund if they are found to be otherwise.


PAYMENT:

Successful bidders are expected to pay in full shortly after receiving their invoice. If items are not paid for in a timely manner, or arrangements made, then the sale may be nullified.
