VARIOUS PROPERTIES

Hicks was born in London in 1960 into a family of well-established artists. She studied at the Chelsea School of Art and the Royal College of Art and was chosen, at the age of 24, by Dame Elisabeth Frink for the Annual Artist for the Day exhibition at the Angela Flowers Gallery.

Hicks cites the work of Elisabeth Frink and Barry Flanagan as the inspiration for her own animal sculpture. Her animals are real animals with flesh and bones, and her bestiary, whether in straw and plaster or bronze, places her firmly in the tradition of the animalier. An innate sense of humour is also very evident in the titles of her pieces; in the present work the racing greyhound is given a name with an obvious double entendre.

No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.
Artist's Resale Right ("droit de Suite"). If the Artist's Resale Right Regulations 2006 apply to this lot, the buyer also agrees to pay us an amount equal to the resale royalty provided for in those Regulations, and we undertake to the buyer to pay such amount to the artist's collection agent.
