The pupil of his uncle, the artist Etienne Jeaurat, Jeaurat de Bertry was hugely influenced in his still life painting by Chardin. Received into the Academy in 1756, he went on to have notable successes at the Paris Salon and was taken on as peintre de la Reine by Queen Marie Leczinska at Versailles. Still lifes by him can be seen at Fontainebleau, the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, Paris, the Musée d'Auxerre and the Musée Carnavalet, Paris.
