Nikolai Kasatkin joined the circle of Moscow conceptualists and 'Sots Art' artists alongside Erik Bulatov and Oleg Vasiliev.

The series 'Traces' depicts ancient landscapes, in which the past activities of man have left traces in the form of ruins and old posts. I chose objects, which strictly define the spatial construction and dictate a fixed perception of space. This can be in the form of 'frames' or 'entrances' to the space of the painting, 'obstacles' which the viewer has to overcome.
