Nikolai Nikolaevich Karazin, Russian 1842-1908- Arab falconer in a Moorish interior; watercolour, signed in Cyrillic, 66x44cm (unframed) Note: Nikolai Nikolaevich Karazin left cadet school in Moscow in 1862, then studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg from 1865-67. He went to Poland and Turkestan in the guise of an officer, then worked as a correspondent and illustrator during the Russo-Turkish War in 1877-1878. After he completed military service he travelled with a scientific expedition team to Central Asia, India, Egypt, Italy, and Switzerland. It was during that time he became a prolific writer, painter and illustrator, with much of his creative output being inspired by his travels, and by his military experiences. In 1904 he became an academician of the Imperial Academy of Arts.
