Description

New York or Ohio, ca 1830-1840, oil on canvas. A pair of Noah North attributed portraits in original mahogany veneer frames; 30 x 25 in.

Noah North (1809-1880) imitated the work of the accomplished folk artist Ammi Phillips, who painted in the Connecticut and Albany, New York, from 1811-1865. Noah North worked chiefly in the western counties of New York State. His work is similar to that of Milton Hopkins (1789 to 1844) who was also from that region.
