A brass plaque on the frame, lower center, is inscribed: PUBLIC WORKS OF ART PROJECT. The PWAP lasted from December 1933 - June 1934.

The records of the Cleveland Museum of Art, Ohio, indicate that the painting was at the museum from May 1934 - July 1934, in transit to the Mansfield Public Library, Ohio. It is possible that the work was in PWAP exhibitions at both institutions.
