Description

Novelli (Francesco, 1764-1836). Medea, or The Marriage of Jason and Creusa, etching after Rembrandt, dated 1791, margins neatly trimmed, plate size 23.8 x 18.4 cm (9.4 x 7.25 ins), mounted, together with van Leyden (Lucas, 1494-1533), The Dentist, reversed copper engraving, dated 1523 [but later], trimmed to margins, touching image on both left and right hand sides, with one or two nicks with a little loss, 12 x 7.5 cm (4.75 x 3 ins), mounted on card, plus Grimaldi il Bolognese (Giovan Francesco, 1606-1680), Landscape with two horsemen on a road leading to a castle, etching, margins trimmed, plate size 19.5 x 19.5 cm (7.75 x 7.75 ins), mounted on old paper, and five other various Old Master prints, including an etching entitled Aer by Buijtenweg (some damage), another after Martin Heemskerck, depicting soldiers pulling down a classical statue, a late 15th century woodcut illustration of the slave Davus, from Terence's Phormio, possibly printed by Gruninger at Strasbourg in 1496, and three others (9)
