Nuna Parr 1949 - Canadian dark green serpentine stone sculpture Dancing Bear 18 x 17 3/4 x 12 1/2 inches 45,7 x 45,1 x 31,7 centimeters signed Provenance:Private Collection, Quebec Nuna Parr was born on Baffin Island near Cape Dorset, a vibrant arts centre. Parr worked with the local green soapstone known as serpentine, the quality of which allows the achievement of fluid form, delicate line and silky finish. His observation of wildlife while hunting naturally led him to carve animals, the powerful yet playful bear being one of his favoured subjects. His work is in the collection of the National Gallery of Canada.
