Description

OOC - Portrait of Jonathan Chase, Bangor, Maine by Jonas W. Holman (ME, 1805-1873), signed, identified and dated 1835 on reverse by the artist, unframed, 29" x 24", very good condition, two repaired punctures lower left. Jonathan Chase lived to age 100 (1812-1912), was a famous mill builder, built the first steam mill on the Penobscot, and was known country-wide, he wears a beaded sash as a veteran of the Seminole Indian War; his son Capt. John F. Chase, was the most wounded survivor of Gettysburg, won the Congressional Medal of Honor as an Artillery officer at Chancellorsville.
