Description

Original pen and ink drawing mounted to board. Image size 15 1/2 x9, signed by the artist in the image. Original illustration used by Scribner's Magazine, with some publishers' markings in margins and their label on verso. Depicts a night scene with a horror-struck crowd outside a cathedral (St. John the Divine?). Franklin Booth was a much-celebrated illustrator from Indiana, known for his decorative and intricate illustrations. This drawing from the collection of Frank J. Reilly who was an instructor at the Art Students League of NYC (his label to verso).
