Item Overview

Description

Otis Dozier (1904-1987), "Three Cows on a Hill" oil on canvas. Canvas: 40"H x 36"W; Unframed. Signed and dated lower right, "Otis Dozier 86". Provenance: Estate of Otis Dozier. Dozier was one of the Dallas Nine painters of the 1930's and 40's. The artist's technique is identifiable by his bold colors, semi-abstract style and thick brushwork. One will often find a Texas creature in his paintings, whether it is a grasshopper, a goat or a steer. His work was widely exhibited and now his paintings are in the permanent collections of The Blanton Museum of Art, Austin; Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, Canyon; Dallas Museum of Art; Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth; and both the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of Art in New York to name a few.
