Lot 109: Otto Paul Rost, Kneeling Female Nude, Bronze, 1938

The artist faced up with the motif of the kneeling female nude over years: Rost created several bronze sculptures and the sandstone figure 'Große Knieende', which is presented in the rose garden in Dresden.

Condition:
The bronze is in good condition. There are rubbed spots and traces of corrosion in some place. Traces of fixing (black points) can be seen at the right arm.

Otto Paul Rost (1887-1970)
Otto Rost was born in Döbeln in Saxony. He studied in Dresden, first at the School of Applied Arts and then continued from 1920 to 1923 at the Art Academy under Georg Wrba. 1936 Rost received an award for his relief "Rugby struggle", which he had created for the Olympic Games, thereby securing his position at the Dresden Academy where he succeeded Wrba in 1939. His style was not in conflict with aesthetic interests of those in power, therefore he maintained he position till 1945. After the war, Otto Rost operated within the meaning of the new rulers and was a member in the Order Commission of the city of Dresden. During this period of work, he created mainly monuments and busts of politicians, educators and artists. (msc)
