Description

OUTSTANDING SMALL WATERCOLOR OF BAKER'S CHOCOLATE LADY BY R. GEUDTNER. This outstanding rendition of the famed "La Belle Chocolatier" depicts the young maid preparing to serve cocoa. This nicely detailed watercolor, signed in lower right, "AQUAREL R. GEUDTNER". Rudolph Geudtner was born in 1811 and died in 1892. The original watercolor is nicely matted in a period mat and framed in a gilt Eastlake designed frame which dates to around 1870 or 1880. An original framer's label on reverse from "W.K. O'BRIEN & BROTHERS OF NEW YORK". SIZE: (image only) 7 1/2" h x 5" w; (overall) 19" h x 15" w. CONDITION: Velvet cloth liner on frame much worn; slight overall soiling otherwise generally good. 1-6400
