Notes

Porpora began his professional activity in Naples but moved to Rome in 1656 where he became a member of the Accademia di San Luca. In Rome he worked alongside other still life painters such as Mario Nuzzi, called Mario de' Fiori, whose style seems to have influenced this work, and a date in the late 1650s or around 1660 therefore seems plausible.

The attribution to Porpora has been endorsed by Professor Nicola Spinosa, following first hand inspection of the painting.
