Item Overview

Description

Paris 1937/Exposition Internationale.
EUGENE BEAUDOIN (1898-?) & MARCEL LODS (1891-1978)
Imp. Bedos, Paris
Cond B+/Slight tears at folds.
The skywriting, the night scene, the hint of futurism, all contribute to the sense of romance and excitement in this most effective design. The milky azure image with its shimmering pink and white flashes of light won first prize in a poster competition held by the French Ministry of Commerce for the Paris 1937 World's Fair. Its co-creators were architects who were involved in several construction projects together around Paris, including the overall design for the upcoming 1937 World's Fair; they entered the competition on a whim, and regrettably, never produced another poster. After a partnership that extended from 1925 to 1940, Beaudoin left to become director of architectural studies at a school in Geneva, while Lods stayed in private practice in Paris. This is the largest-and rarest-of the three known formats.
