Notes

Park Sung Tae innovatively manifests traditional Korean artistic ideals and pursues an art practice connecting Eastern and Western elements. He replaces the brush with new materials to expand the conventional limits of calligraphy, simultaneously maintaining his devotion to traditional Korean aesthetics. With an aluminum screen as his brush and shadow as ink, Park's approach of classical oriental art is as multicultural as it is trans-categorical.

Untitled (Lot 1551) uses aluminum screen to produce four vivid and lively horses, showing the creatures' elegance and power. The speedy herd with tremendous momentum brings forth Park's commitment for art and his adventurous character. When light shines on the wall, the shadow of the metal produces a beclouded animation, which reminds the audience of a dusty scene with horses at racing speed. Park Sung Tae's work is an installation and can be displayed on any wall; his work is a sculpture, rendering realistic and three-dimensional feelings; it is also an "ink" painting with a delicate oriental tint.
