Lot 32: Pasquale de' Rossi (Vicenza 1639-1722 Rome)

This painting by Pasquale de'Rossi, also known as Pasqualino Rossi, is a melange of motifs and variations taken from the School of boys and the School of girls that Rodolfo Pallucchini recently published in Pittura veneziana del Seicento, Milan, 1993, II, figs. 977-8, respectively in the Louvre, Paris and in the Statens Museum for Kunst, Copenhagen.

We are grateful to Mr. Ugo Ruggeri for confirming the attribution on the basis of a photograph (written communication, 16 February 2006). He suggests that it dates from de' Rossi's early period in Venice.

Christie's charge a premium to the buyer on the final bid price of each lot sold at the following rates: 23.8% of the final bid price of each lot sold up to and including €150,000 and 14.28% of any amount in excess of €150,000. Buyers' premium is calculated on the basis of each lot individually.
