Tayseer Barakat is considered one of the most important artists to emerge from Gaza. Born in 1959 in Jabalia Camp, Barakat graduated with a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts from Helwan University. His works have been exhibited at the Sao Paulo International Biennale (1997), in Austria in 2006, in Damascus in 2010, at the Alexandria Biennale in 1989, at the Museum of Modern Art in Stockholm (1996), at the United Nations Headquarters in New York in 1997, at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris (2000), at the Sharjah Biennale in 2003, amongst others. He lives and works in Ramallah, Palestine.
