Notes

A study for the fresco on the vault of the Camera dell'Estate at Caprarola. Decoration of Cardinal Alessandro Farnese's palazzo probably began in 1561, and according to documents discovered in the Archivio di Stato in Rome the ceilings of the Sala di Giove and the four Camerine delle Stagioni were completed by 1562 (J.A. Gere, Taddeo Zuccaro, his development studied in his drawings, London, 1969, p. 22). Gere noted that 'although the drawing corresponds very closely with the picture it is certainly not a copy' (J.A. Gere, 'Addenda and Corrigenda', op. cit., p. 323).
