Description

PELL, Ella Ferris, (American, 1846-1922): "The Northern Gate to the Hudson Highlands", O/B, 10" x 15", signed lower right, dated 1917, encased in period frame 14" x 18 3/4". Pell studied at the Academie Julian, Paris, and the Ecole Des Beaux-Arts, exhibited at the NAD, Brooklyn AA, Paris Salon, Boston AC, and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Ella Ferris Pell is believed to be the daughter of Stephen Pell, founder of the historical Fort Ticonderoga Museum. Stephen Pell was the grandson of William Ferris Pell who originally purchased the fort in 1816. Possible descendants of the founder of Pelham, NH. Condition - Several minor flecks of paint loss, needs cleaning.
