A Lady, wearing white dress with gold stripes, white lace underslip, jewelled gold belt and ultramarine cloak pinned at her right shoulder with ruby brooch and held at her left breast with red ribbon
watercolour on vellum, put down on playing card (six of clubs)
, signed on reverse and dated Ps Eùrard/ pinxit/ a la/ Haye/ 1720, set in original fishskin case set with brass bead decoration, the interior hinged and glazed to reveal both sides
Oval, 66mm. (2 9/16ins.) high

Notes

Evrard worked for the courts of Madrid and Vienna. The present lot is similarly signed to a portrait of William IV, Prince of Orange, painted in 1721.
