Description

Lady Warwick (d.circa 1689), wearing blue robe slashed at the sleeve to reveal white chemise, also visible at her décolleté, a brooch at her corsage, orange mantle draped over her left shoulder, her brown hair curled and worn long.
Watercolour on vellum, signed on the reverse and dated Lady Warwik [sic]/ done by P Cross/ 1675, silver-gilt frame with pierced spiral cresting.

It seems likely that the sitter is Lady Anne Montagu, the daughter of Edward Montagu, 2nd Earl of Manchester (d.1671), who married as his second wife Robert Rich, 5th Earl of Warwick (d.1675). The couple had four daughters and one son, who succeeded his father as the 6th Earl of Warwick.
