PETER TURNERELLI (1775-1839) "George III with Order of the Garter badge", a bust length portrait study, copy of the Jubilee bust, white marble on a turned socle, inscribed verso "P. Turnerelli Fecit", 43.5 cm high (Provenance: by family repute a gift from George IV to The First Lord Melville, Henry Dundas, First Viscount Melville) (Peter Turnerelli - Irish sculptor of Italian origin, studied under Peter Francis Chenu. From 1797 to 1800 he taught modelling to the daughters of George III and was subsequently Sculptor-in-Ordinary to the Royal Family. Other works include George III - 1810 Windsor Castle, Duke of Wellington 1815 India Office, Louis XVIII 1816). (ILLUSTRATED)
