NOTE

Fruytiers was enrolled as a master in the Guild of St Luke in 1631-2 in Antwerp where he was active as a painter, illuminator and printmaker. His best known portrait miniature, which is similar in composition to the present work, is the Four Children of Peter Paul Rubens and Hélène Fourment with Two Maids in the Royal Collection, Windsor Castle (gouache on vellum, 24.8 by 34.3 cm.). A portrait of the artist David Teniers by Fruytiers is offered in this sale, Part I, lot 11.
