Item Overview

Description

TWO (2) ORIGINAL LANDSCAPE OIL PAINTINGS - each oil painting C. 1910 by listed artist British Artist Philip Hugh Padwick R.O.I & R.B.A. (1876 - 1958). One signed by the artist. Each an oil on canvas board in good condition with a size of 14 x 10 inches. Both are framed with period frames - each frame is in good condition with some scuffing, but have hung in my house for several years in the present condition. Padwick lived at Fittleworth, in England where the family had land, and he developed his style that looked back to the eighteenth century. His colours were bold, the paint more impressionistic and the detail more fluid than defined. Padwick's oils have great charm. In the era of Downton Abbey, Georgian style oils were very popular as old masters were being collected, and an artist that could capture that and interpret the modern day view was onto a successful career. Padwick regularly exhibited at the Royal Academy and many fashionable galleries in and around London. His work is in the Tate and many museums throughout England.
