Description

Lendvai-Dircksen, Erna Portraits of Ergy Landau 4131). - Some light scuff marks, one print with slight fading in edges, otherwise in good condition. - With: Photo postcard of one of the larger prints. Portraits of the photographer Ergy Landau (1896 - 1967). Circa 1919. 3 vintage sepia-toned matte gelatin silver prints. Each circa 22,5 x 17 cm. Each mounted to board (soiled) and signed by the photographer in pencil below the image on the mount. Ergy Landau worked in several studios (Setzer, Vienna and Dührkoop, Berlin) before opening her own studio in Budapest in 1920. She was forced to emigrate in 1923 and went to Paris where she opened her Landau Studio. She did many portraits and nudes and in 1927 she changed her style, replacing the softer focus of Pictorialism with the dynamic angles and sharp lines of the New Vision. Landau also participated in the Werkbund exhibition in Stuttgart in 1929. Fellow Hungarian photographers Nora Dumas and Ylla began their careers in the Landau studio (see
