French conceptual artist Pierre Bismuth is known for his intelligent dismantling of cultural products and the wry and often humorous shifts and 'misuses' to which he subjects his material. Bismuth's work constitutes a creative intervention into familiar codes, habits and objects, in order to expose the mechanisms of visibility and creation of meaning. He has recently exhibited at the British Film Institute in London, Team Gallery in New York, Kunsthalle Bern, Istanbul Museum of Modern Art, and Kadist Art Foundation in Paris. Other recent solo exhibition include Neon, Mirror and Gold, Galeria Sonia Rosso, Turin (2009); Following the Right Hand of..., Team Gallery, New York (2009); Pierre Bismuth - Ruled by Extravagant Expectations, Christine König Galerie, Vienna (2008); and Coming Soon, Santa Monica Museum of Art, Santa Monica (2006). Group exhibitions include Satellite of Love, Witte de With IFFR, Rotterdam (2005) and Fax, Drawing Center, New York (2003). His works are represented in many private and public collections. In 2005 he won the best original screenplay at the 77th Academy Awards along with Michel Gondry and Charlie Kaufman for the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind .
